Poddar Court & Nakhoda Mosque

Long Live The King

Last Sunday, it was a KWS shoot after a long long time. Anirban is currently assisting Dabboo Ratnani in Mumbai. He came down to Kolkata for couple of weeks. Anirban had lot to speak about his new world and we thought that we would do it with some prawn dumpings and chicken chaNp from Royal. Many new shutterbugs joined us this time. Slowly but steadily KWS is growing. Our group is the most active group in Kolkata, no doubt in that. We started our morning with poddar court market. Had the fast foods like the first time and shot the market. The whole market area is a single lane and it is not that big. But in terms of the varieties of transactions, the market shoot was good.

I personally did not shoot much and tried to see the expressions of the sellers and the customers.

From the market we walked down towards Nakhoda Mosque. We faced little problem. Though some of our friends were able to shoot the other day, this time we were not lucky. Some people who stay over there was not comfortable with such a big crowd, we were somewhere around 10 in the group. So we were not allowed to do photography. Some one or two photos I was able to capture before they objected. We talked to the Imam who told us to talk to the police or the trustees. We talked to the officer of local police station. He came down and supported us but it was of no use. Someone from us took a macro shot of a flower and they had took it as a secret photography!! Anyways, we have to do it later and in a small group. The architecture is very beautiful inside and I was missing a wide lens. We went straight to Royal and had a fantastic breakfast! Royal special chicken chaNp, firni and roti. Anirban narrated the whole Mumbai affair. He talked about the dedication for work among Mumbai people and the photography world in Mumbai as he was able to see in these weeks. We had our group photo, finished the long session of breakfast and moved towards Bose Pacia. A photography exhibition by Trent Park was going on. The B&W exhibit was good. Some photographs were very simple yet a little different perspectives. In all I liked it. I liked the photographs where 3 different photographs were combined. The particular photograph I thought was talking about the inside of a room, the shadow of a tree on window pane and the outside. The photograph was a collage of these three and looking amazing. Called it a day after having some ice creams, it is high time to change the name of the group as Kolkata weekend food; instead of Kolkata weekend shoot!!
