Adda
Adda is a common Bengali word. It means a casual chat or conversation between friends or among a group. There is practically no age limit of people joining in an Adda. Take any Bengali area, roam around on streets on a weekend, you will come across these get-togethers for sure. These adda sessions may last for hours. Topics may vary from Poetry to Politics. West Bengal is a cultural hub in India, many times these meeting results in productive ideas. Place of adda may be a roadside cemented base, it may be a tea stall or inside a club! There is no fixed idea. Bengalis may start adda in a train, in a bus or during an office lunch break. Bengalis are so fond of this that so many stories got adda as the main theme. Ghana Da is a famous character. He stays in a mess and loves to take the lead in an adda session. A cup of tea is all that Ghana Da needs.
In my office we finalized “adda” as the theme of the next issue of office magazine. For this, last week we checked out some popular joints in Kolkata to find out the real adda scenes. I was able to get some frames which captured the mood. I loved the theme completely. Thinking of doing something big on this, lets see!
