Heavy Vehicle Scrap Market

oil & metal

I was leaving Bangalore. This was the last shoot with BWS shutterbugs. Talked to akshath. Akshath informed that a plan is already in process, Siddaiah Road Metal scrap market. Quick chat with the guys. On Sunday, after a lot of struggle to find a safe parking place, 5 of us: Akshath, PV, Surendar, Raghuram and myself met infront of Urvashi theatre. H. siddaish road is the one which starts from Urvashi, ends near Shantinagar Big Bazaar. In Bangalore, there are number of metal scrap markets like Shivajinagar, City Market, Siddaiah Road Market etc. These deal in specific types of scraps. For example, on siddaiah road, the merchants deal with Truck and Lorry (Heavy Vehicle) parts.

Starting from the steering wheel to the rear wheels having demon’s face marked on it, all were there! It was a real fun shooting metal scrap parts. I liked that one more than Portraits. At each point, we were shooting for 15 to 20 minutes. Change your angle to 10 degrees, you get a beautiful shot; tilt your camera few degrees, you get an altogether different shot. Engine and body parts, all were stacked outside the workshops. People (read merchants) were friendly. They were just curious to know why were we finding it interesting to shoot junk!!

Raghuram’s flickr name is “RedBull”. He spotted a bull with horns colored red. He tried many times to get a shot with the namesake… It was a failed attempt. The bull was not liking to pose in the morning, he did not have his breakfast at that time too. We met a businessman who had a shop of engine and gear parts. He explained to us that milk is being used as the lubricant for those parts. Akshath tested if it was real milk and confirmed. The shoot was of completely different kind. We enjoyed it. Had a last group shot and I left Bangalore.
